Narrative Essay

January 11, 2010

So, I had to do a narrative essay for my composition class.  I must say, this little project just reconfirmed my love for the written word.  Writing and music are two art forms that I just get.  True, a picture can be worth a thousand words, but it is also limiting by the very nature of it being a visual medium.  You can only see what is there.  Words on the other hand, if used properly, guide you to a place and allow your mind to fill in the details.  Ask a thousand different people to read one page and give you their idea of it, and you may very well get a thousand different descriptions.  Therein lies the fun of it.  We all have our daily grinds.  Our work schedule that must be adhered to.  The routine we go through getting the kids ready for the day.  The chores that need to be done.  Or good book, or a well written song gives us something to wrap our minds fully around, and keep us thinking about them long after we’ve closed the book or turned the song off.  Ahh,  In my zest for the topic, I’ve strayed completely off the path I’d intended to go down.  The gist of it is this.  It as just as fun and amazing to create that little world as it is to be a participant in it.
